Why does a God of Love Allow Evil?

Why does a God of Love Allow Evil?

Why does a God of Love Allow Evil?

I have been asked this question or something like it more than any other question I have received whenever the discussion of God arises.

Another similar question is "why do good people suffer?"

Do You Want Clarity or Comfort?

In other words, do you want me to give you an answer that makes you feel better or do you want me to give you the plain truth?

I am aware of the reasons people struggle with this, but I think that even the question itself is a distraction from reality.

Here we go:

God Does Whatever He Wants

King Nebuchadnezzar Answers This Question

(Emphasis is Mine)

And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellers and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.

Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase.

Daniel 4:34-36

So, there You have it

God is love - He proved this by sending his only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, His perfect, spotless sacrificial Lamb to die for the sins of the world.  God has PROVED that He loves man.  (Romans 5:8)

But love is NOT ALL that God is.

God is also: sovereign, immutable, eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and over and above all God is HOLY.

We Love LOVE

Love is very attractive to us and it seems to be not only the "favorite" attribute of God that is repeated by Christians, in many cases it seems that as we listen to them that God has NO OTHER attribute.  This is an error.

In Revelation Chapter 4, the curtain is pulled back so we can get a peek into the throne-room of God and we see this scene: holy angels never ceasing to proclaim "HOLY, HOLY, HOLY."

Notice that they are not saying "LOVE, LOVE, LOVE."

"And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."  Revelation 4:8

God's HOLINESS is His crowning attribute and all of His other attributes can be described by this: His Love is HOLY, His Righteousness is HOLY, His Sovereignty is HOLY ...

We Think too MUCH of Ourselves and too LITTLE of God

According to the Bible, God made man from the dust (dirt) of the earth.  The name Adam essentially means "dirt" or "dust".  God made us from dust and He made the dust from NOTHING.

It is NOT "all about Us", it is "ALL ABOUT GOD."

If you don't like the way God is ruling the universe that He created and owns, tough.  He is God.  You were created by Him to bring Him pleasure.  Are you bringing God pleasure?  (Revelation 4:11)
